One of the first great fighter aces: this 1/10th fine-scale bust portrays Major Lanoe George Hawker, VC, DSO, shown in his famous goat-and-mink fur flying coat. A pioneer of air fighting and the third airman to win the Victoria Cross, Hawker was eventually shot down after a long duel with Manfred von Richthofen. Sculpted by Jon Cheeseman, this bust is full of period character.
The kit is a multi-part bust supplied unassembled and unpainted, and requires assembly. Any groundwork shown in the photographs was provided by the artist and is not included. Not suitable for children under 12.
Painting this bust
That thick fur coat is the showpiece — a wonderful exercise in texture and tonal variation — set off by a characterful face. Ideal territory for our Kolinsky sable brushes, with a dry brush to lift the fur. Collect the aces with Billy Bishop and Cecil Lewis in our Great War pilot busts range.
